[brutal boston]
city hall // christian science complex //
carpenter center for the visual arts
boston’s relationship towards its concrete structures is one of casualness; locals accept and understand the role of brutalism in their cityscape while the buildings quietly bask in their brutal glory
that’s not to say the structures go unregarded. on the contrary, the concrete behemoth that is boston city hall reigns supreme as a brutal deity. furthermore, the city’s other concrete buildings, like the christian science complex and harvard university’s carpenter center for the visual arts, are nearly impossible to ignore - whether by size, design, or both
it's the careful balance between the city’s architecture, its acknowledgement, as well as its appreciation, that makes bostonian brutalism a curious case for the study of concrete
